How I Get Reinspired?

Ever wake up feeling like there’s more you’re meant to accomplish or felt inspired to conquer the world one day and not care at all the next?

I’ve been there and am sure that many others have as well. Recently, I came across this very short season in my life feeling uninspired. It was a very scary feeling considering that people often seek inspiration from me.  I had to stop and ask myself WHY I felt the way I did because I wanted to get out of the funk I was in.

I got together with friends and those I looked up to and asked “How do YOU re-inspire yourself?” Everyone had a different answer but the ones that I thought were best for ME are the ones below. I hope sharing this will benefit many and, most importantly, the nurses that I work with because they inspire me every day.

Hang out with your customers/people in general.

Nurses are always asking me… “why do you hang out with nurses all the time?” In addition to simply loving those I work with… I believe spending time with them helps me understand who they are on a whole new level, which in turn, helps me represent them in a way that no one else can. Same thing goes for nurses in healthcare. Ask any nurse why they became a nurse in the first place, and the most common answer is that they enjoy helping people—they believe they can make a difference.

During the funk that I was in, I realized it's been a minute since I hung out with my nurses. I typically see nurses weekly, but since I was in TWO of my friends' weddings, have been out of town,  and got sick, I was not able to be around those who inspire me—it was rough!  So I started scheduling time with some of my nurse-peeps, current nurses and new ones I had yet to meet…. And boom! I was re-inspired!

As a recruiter, it’s more than just finding the right assignment for nurses, for me, it’s getting to KNOW the WHY behind each and every single amazing nurse.

Take time for yourself.

As a recruiter, working for an awesome company like Emerald Health Services, I believe I am more than just a recruiter for an agency. I’m KAREN LE.

The line of business that I am in is truly building a name and running a company as if it’s my own. That being said, taking time for myself is crucial. As I approach a busy winter season for nurses, it’s important that I take time for myself. No one can keep going at full steam all the time. Being refreshed and doing self-care is not only the best thing for your soul, but also for your business and those around you. So when I hear my friends tell me, “Karen, go treat yourself with some self-care,” you bet I’m going to take that time for myself!

Set up time to renew your goals.

I don’t think I can live life without having any goals for myself. While I was asking those around me, “How do you re-inspire yourself,” my good friend Michelle challenged me, “Well, what are your goals?” As simple as that question was,  I didn’t have a good answer right away.   I do have goals, but why haven’t I reached them? What’s holding me back from achieving certain goals?

I decided to take the weekend to re-evaluate and create new goals.  I, again, got re-ignited and became excited to reach them. Whether you have a yearly, monthly, or even a weekly goal, it’s important to take time to renew them.

Savor the success you’ve achieved.

There’s so much to be said about being excited about life. One of the ways that I have discovered inspiration for myself is to look back and remember where I came from. It helps me reflect on the moments that were difficult or a struggle, reminding me of the feelings of hardship, but more importantly, the feelings of overcoming obstacles. When I take these moments, I literally feel like a battery being recharged!

In the start of my career as a travel nurse recruiter, the hashtag “the struggle is real” cannot fulfill the meaning of hardship that I went through as a recruiter. There were so many difficult loops and obstacles that I had to go through to be where I am today.

Thinking back on those hard times, I am reminded that nothing in life comes easy and no matter what season I am in, there will ALWAYS be some sort of struggle or hardship.  However, what defines me as ME is how I overcome the difficulties that lie ahead.

I encourage everyone to take the time to write down all of their life’s hardest moments, and jot down the feelings that you had while going through them. Then, beside each moment, write down all the achievements that followed and the positive feelings that came along.  Take those feelings and be inspired!
